DIY BALLOON WEIGHT CRAFTS

*Captain America voice* So… you bought a balloon at Walt Disney World. You enjoyed it for a few days, weeks, or even months. Then, your balloon inevitably met its slow, deflating demise. All that remains are lowly balloon remnants and 1 or 2 weights. Most balloon owners put flattened balloons in a scrapbook or shadowbox, but what about the weights? From the minds of our own balloon vendors, here are 7 simple DIY balloon weight crafts.

CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

What you’ll need:

1 or more balloon weights

Ornament hooks

Add a touch of magic to your Christmas tree this holiday season. Take however many weights you have and attach little wire ornament hooks to them. That’s it! You can get hooks virtually anywhere around Christmastime (you can’t go wrong with Dollar Tree). Spray paint them silver and gold before hanging them on your tree, or whatever colors match your personal holiday vibe.

HOLIDAY GARLAND

What you’ll need:

5 or more balloon weights

Yarn or string

Another festive DIY craft for the holidays is making a balloon weight garland. Our weights already have holes in the ears for our vendors to attach balloon string. So, simply swap out the balloon string for yarn. Then, attach all your weights along the string. Space them about 2-3 inches apart for the best aesthetic look. Leave them black, or spray paint them before attaching for more holiday fun.

KEYCHAINS

What you’ll need:

1 balloon weight

Keychain link

Elevate your keys, purse, or backpack with a DIY balloon weight keychain. If you already have a key ring readily available, then this should be super simple. If not, your local Dollar Tree should have either a key ring or keychain link to attach to your weight.

Loop the balloon weight through the keychain link, then reattach the chain around your keys or bag. Just like that, you have a brand new balloon weight keychain. Before you attach the weight to your set of keys, spray paint it your favorite color for some added personalization.

REFRIGERATOR MAGNETS

What you’ll need:

1 or more balloon weights

Magnets

Super glue

Alternatively, upgrade your fridge with some adorable new balloon weight magnets. You’ll need one plain magnet per weight. Some crafting magnets come with an adhesive side that you can stick to your balloon weight. If not, super glue the magnets to your weights. Allow proper time for the glue to dry. Then, they’re ready to use on your fridge.

When completing this craft, we used disc magnets from Amazon with an adhesive front. Like our previous crafts, feel free to paint your weights before beginning the adhesion process.

COASTER SET

What you’ll need:

4 or more balloon weights

Coaster holder (optional)

Arguably the easiest of all DIY weight crafts is to make yourself a set of balloon weight coasters. This craft works best if you have enough weights for a full set of coasters. On average, a complete set of coasters has 4 or 6 pieces. If you only have 1 or 2 weights however, that’s perfectly fine, as well.

Simply set them out on a coffee table either by themselves or in a decorative holder. The 3.5 inch by 3.5 inch holder shown above is from Dollar Tree’s craft section.

PAPERWEIGHT

What you’ll need:

3 to 5 balloon weights

Super glue

If you have 3 to 5 balloon weights, then you have enough to make a paperweight. Our new balloon weights come in at 30 grams each. So, 3 weights super glued together make a paperweight that weighs about 3 ounces. 5 weights would weigh about 5 ounces, and so on. Feel free to make your paperweight as tall or heavy as you’d like.

PARTY FAVORS

What you’ll need:

1 balloon weight per guest

White or metallic permanent marker

This DIY craft is perfect for dedicated Walt Disney World balloon collectors. If you have too many balloon weights that you just don’t know what to do with, party favors might be the perfect solution. Use a white or metallic permanent marker to write a message on the smooth side of the weight. Then, repeat that process however many times you need to. Hand them out to your guests, put them near place settings, or whatever fits your party best.
